TCMS Business of Medicine Dinner and Ethics CME Presentation:

When: Thursday, November 7, 2019, | 6:30 PM Dinner; 7:00 PM Presentation

What: In the fight against prescription fraud and abuse as well as improved and better informed prescribing, Texas is enhancing the tech-side of the state’s Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). Funding to upgrade the PMP to a more integrated product with visualization tools will allow you to check a patient’s controlled substance prescription history and assess abuse and overdose risk, much easier – for most with just a few clicks of a button.

Where: Texas Medical Association Building, Thompson Auditorium,

401 W. 15th Street

Webinar facilitated by Dan Finch, TMA Director of Legislative Affairs

Attendees will watch a webinar then participate in an interactive discussion in order to receive 1.25 hours of ethics CME.

Learning Objectives: Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

  1. Describe the Texas statutory requirements for checking the prescription monitoring program (PMP) when prescribing certain classes of medications;
  2. Explain how to use the state-designated PMP platform whether integrated with the user’s electronic health record or by accessing via a web browser; and
  3. Determine a patient’s overdose risk by using the PMP platform’s data visualization tools and patient-specific risk score to enhance clinical decision making at the point of care.

Parking: Parking is available in the TMA building. Enter from San Antonio street and proceed to the second and third levels.

CME: 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ (Enduring)
